Google Unveils New Features in Latest Android Update Including RCS Message Amendments and Seamless Hotspot Connectivity
Google recently unveiled a suite of seven new features coming to Android platforms including Meet, Home, Messages, and Wear OS this Thursday. Among the array of updates, the standout is the new capability allowing users to amend RCS messages for up to 15 minutes after they've been dispatched. This update marks a departure from the exclusivity seen with announcements at Google I/O 2024, as these new functionalities are slated for a broader rollout across various Android gadgets and territories, with certain limitations being region-specific.
RCS Message Amendment Functionality
Through a detailed blog entry, Google shared its initiation of an amendment feature for RCS messages. This adjustment can be made by long-pressing on a dispatched RCS message, prompting an edit symbol to emerge at the top. With this, users have the leisure to alter their text within a quarter-hour window from the time of sending, the company elucidates.
Swift Hotspot Creation and Device Synergy Enhancements
Google has hinted at the introduction of an 'instant hotspot' capability, facilitating seamless connections between tablets or Chromebooks and an Android smartphone's hotspot sans the hassle of password entry. Moreover, an upgrade to Cross-Device Services is on the anvil, promising a fluid interchange amongst devices including smartphones, web browsers, or tablets for video communication.
The corporation boasts that Android phones can now function as digital keys for automobiles, providing locking, unlocking, and ignition start features. Initially compatible with select MINI vehicles, this offering is set to extend to models from Mercedes-Benz and Polestar.
Additionally, enhanced control over smart appliances is achievable via the Google Home Favorites widget on Android phones, alongside a similar feature accessible on WearOS smartwatches.
In financial convenience news, WearOS smartwatch owners in the US and Germany will soon have the privilege of executing transactions via PayPal through Google Wallet. Wrapping up the announcements, Google anticipates the release of novel Emoji Kitchen sticker sets, facilitating unique sticker creation by merging two emojis in Gboard.
