It seems that in the near future, the iconic phrase for calling the Apple voice assistant will disappear from our dictionary. It is reported that Apple has plans to shorten it, leaving only the name. Of course, there are other Siri elements that developers are currently working on.
While the shortening of the phrase “Hey Siri” will not affect the user experience much, it will be a little sad to part with it. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, it will be done to speed up the call of this function. We doubt that removing such a short word from circulation will significantly change the process of interacting with it, but perhaps the developers know something that we do not.
At the same time, some experts believe that the reduction of this phrase may, on the contrary, worsen the user experience. The fact is that the combination of two words is better read by the voice recorder and artificial intelligence, minimizing the likelihood of a trigger by mistake. In any case, if this update does get released, it won’t be until next year, as the developers want to perfect this feature. In addition to shortening the trigger phrase, the company is also working on introducing Siri to third-party apps and improving the ability of artificial intelligence to understand requests.
It’s worth noting that Apple is making such plans as a response to Amazon, which shortened the phrase to call its proprietary assistant to a quick “Alexa.” By the way, even Amazon was not the first in such innovations. For example, Microsoft used only the name “Cortana” to call its assistant (until it completely turned it off). Apple’s other competitor, Google, still uses full phrases like “Hey Google” and “OK Google” and hasn’t announced plans to cut them yet.
How do you feel about shortening the iconic phrase to call the voice assistant? Will it affect the efficiency and performance of this feature?
