Poppy Playtime is a first-person survival horror game developed and published by American indie developer MOB Games. The player takes on the role of a former employee of Playtime Co., who revisits the abandoned toy factory 10 years after the staff's disappearance.  The protagonist discovers that the factory is now filled with toys who are alive and malicious towards them. Various VHS tapes can be found throughout the factory, each giving a more in-depth explanation of the story. Poppy Playtime received positive reviews for its gameplay on its initial release, but was later met with negative reviews after the developers announced non-fungible tokens, with the second chapter receiving mixed reviews for its buggy launch.

Gameplay

The game utilizes multiple puzzles throughout, which the player must solve in order to progress further, with some requiring a gadget named the GrabPack, a backpack that can be equipped with two extendable hands which can be used to pull and reach objects from a far distance, conduct electricity, access certain doors, swing across large gaps, and, via a green hand introduced in Chapter 2, transfer electricity between sources. The player is also equipped with a flashlight, which is used to navigate dark areas, and can also be used to temporarily stun enemies. The player can also hide under objects, such as beds and desks, to avoid being seen by enemies.

Graphics

Graphics-wise, Poppy Playtime is a mixed bag. The environments are impressively detailed and full of color, but the character models are quite basic and lack any real detail. However, the game's visual style is very pleasing, and the overall look of the game is quite solid. The graphics are colorful and cartoonish, which fits the theme and atmosphere of the game. The environment is well designed and detailed, with each area of the factory feeling unique. The sound design is also well done, with the sounds of the different enemies and puzzles being distinct and atmospheric.

Replayability

Poppy Playtime is a short game, but it's replay value is high thanks to its multiple endings. There are also a number of collectibles to find, and achievements to earn. Poppy Playtime is replayable due to the multiple endings that can be achieved, as well as the different difficulty settings. There is also a collectible in the form of VHS tapes that can be found throughout the factory, which provide more insight into the story.

Conclusion

Poppy Playtime is a great game that is well worth its low price tag. It's a unique and original survival horror game that is full of atmosphere and is very replayable. However, the game is quite short, and can be quite buggy. Poppy Playtime is a unique and interesting survival horror game that is well worth checking out.
