Plex Discover to Leave Beta and Expand its Media Collection

In April last year, Plex announced Discover - its JustWatch alternative - and made it available to the vast majority of its users as a public beta. During this period, Plex has added a substantial catalog of movies and TV series and the ability to link to the content in popular streaming services like Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, Prime Video, and more. Taking a cue from Google TV, Plex Discover also allows users to have a central watchlist which saves them from creating separate lists inside each app.

Plex has confirmed to Android Authority that Discover will be released as a standard feature by March. It will remain free for all users as Plex has no plans to place it behind its $5 Plex Pass subscription. People who prefer to use Plex to manage their offline media files alone can unpin Discover from the side menu to avoid interfering with their search queries.

The expanded feature set is likely beneficial for many users. Plex’s free movie library, music streaming service, and Discover make for a more comprehensive media experience. Having the ability to quickly find the show or movie you want to watch, regardless of the streaming service it's on, is a great way to get the most out of your Plex app.

Even with the official release, Plex has plans to improve Discover further by refining its recommendation engine. With more robust support for streaming services, and the ability to keep track of your watchlist in one place, Discover can become an essential part of the Plex experience.
