Recently, Microsoft has introduced an exciting array of 'Designed for Xbox' accessibility controllers at Gamescom 2024, collaborating with Byowave and 8BitDo. This initiative showcases a dedication to inclusivity within the gaming community, catering to a diverse group of players.
The Xbox Adaptive Joystick is the first controller unveiled, scheduled for release in early 2025. Priced at $29.99 (around £24.99), it will only be available through the Microsoft Store. This entry-level wired joystick is developed to assist players with limited mobility, serving as a companion to the Xbox Adaptive Controller and other Xbox controllers, including the Xbox Wireless Controller or Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2.
Next is the Proteus Controller, crafted by Byowave and now purchasable on their website. This innovative controller boasts modularity, enabling users to assemble individual, sphere-like components and customize their gaming experience. Options include configurations that mimic a flight stick stacked vertically or a 2x2 layout with outward-facing sticks and modules. With a price tag of $299 (around £229), it represents a premium investment for gamers seeking tailored experiences.
8BitDo contributes the 8BitDo Lite SE 2.4G Wireless Controller for Xbox. Renowned for quality, the brand’s new accessibility controller features low-resistance face buttons, Hall effect thumbsticks, and a symmetrical design that enhances usability. This controller is also compatible with the Xbox Adaptive Controller and is available for $59.99 on 8BitDo's website.
Additionally, Microsoft is enhancing its Xbox Design Lab service by offering 3D printable files for adaptive thumbstick toppers, free of charge. With six distinct designs to accommodate various playstyles and preferences, this initiative further supports players in personalizing their gaming experience.
