Almost 4 years have passed since Shawn Layden, the former boss of PlayStation, abruptly left Sony, leading to numerous changes within the company. Sony's gaming division appeared to shift its focus towards Europa, naming Dutch Hermen Hulst as the head of PlayStation Studios and replacing Layden with Briton Jim Ryan. However, Ryan has often come across as more business-oriented and formal, leaving many to feel disappointed. As PlayStation continues to morph, it will be intriguing to see how it fares without him.
Jim Ryan has announced his retirement, resulting in his departure from PlayStation and Sony Interactive Entertainment on March 31 after dedicating 30 years to the company.
Effective April 1, Hiroki Totoki will assume the role of Interim CEO of SIE while the search for a suitable successor continues. Shuhei Yoshida is a leading candidate, provided he wants the position.
